Season Ten: 2026-2027 Concerts and Events

Sunday, November 15, 2026, 3pm

“Mr. Duke’s Fiddle: From the English Pub to the Parlor in the 18th Century”

About the Program:

On July 10th, 1776, a luthier named Richard Duke, Sr. inscribed the date of completion inside his newest violin at his shop in Holborn, London. This violin exists to this day, and it is the one now played by Lindsey Strand-Polyak. 250 years later, we’re telling the story of its history in England, through the makers and players who proved a violinist was more than just a fiddler. We’ll explore how a lowly pub instrument came to be revered by the time of Richard Duke, from Whitehall Palace to Hanover Square. From Nicola Matteis’ stunning performances at the Oxford Academies, to Haydn’s Scottish tunes, join us as we celebrate the legacy of the violin in England.

Featured Composers: Daniel Wright, Nicola Matteis, Henry Purcell, Georg Frideric Handel, Johann Christian Bach, Franz Joseph Haydn

“Evening in the Palace of Reason: Johann Sebastian Bach Travels to an Emperor's Court”

About the Program:
In this program, we take you on the sonic tale of music history’s most significant “Bring Your Dad to Work Week”: the elder Johann Sebastian Bach visiting his successful son, Carl Philip Emmanuel, at the court of Emperor Frederick the Great in Berlin in 1747. Drawing on research from James Gaines’ book, we will encounter the musical world that JS Bach himself would have heard when he left the university town of Leipzig for the grandeur of the Prussian imperial court. We’ll finish our journey with one of the most intricate musical creations JS Bach ever composed, inspired by his travels: his incredible trio sonata from The Musical Offering.

NEW! Read the Book... See the Concert!

Our Winter Event is inspired by James Gaines, "Evening in the Palace of Reason" (New York: Harper Perennial, 2006). We will be having in-person and online book discussions and gatherings. Multiple sessions offered both in person and online via Zoom.

Special Event: Saturday, Apr 10, 2027, 1-4:30pm

Tunes Amongst the Tulips: A Spring Open House with Tamara Friedman

An unforgettable event in Skagit County! Tamara Friedman and George Bozarth together curated one of the finest and largest private early keyboard collections in North America. This April Tamara is opening the collection to the Musique du Jour community for a special one-day-only spring Open House.

Tamara and Lindsey will give guided tours of the instruments, and you'll learn how composers and builders inspired each other in the 18th and 19th centuries, and perform musical works that would have been performed on each unique instrument. Light refereshments, tea and drinks will be served.

This event is FREE for all Subscribers and Donors, and each Season Pass includes one Guest Pass to bring a friend! (Additional Ticket Reservations may be purchased separately.)

“The Smallest Operas in the World: No sets, No Costumes, All the Drama!"

About the Program:

In the 17th and 18th Centuries, from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, there were no operas allowed! But rather than go without dramatic vocal music entirely, composers and audiences found a creative loophole: the chamber cantata. So long as it wasn’t staged, it wasn’t considered an opera, and thereby was able to be performed. This has left us today with a vast legacy of intimate operas in miniature— packing deep human drama and spectacular virtuosity into compact storytelling and performing forces. Sometimes secular, sometimes sacred, yet always stunning.
