Join us in Celebrating a Very Old English Violin!
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
On July 10th, 1776, a luthier named Richard Duke, Sr. inscribed the date of completion inside his newest violin at his shop in Holborn, London. This violin exists to this day, and it is the one now played by Lindsey Strand-Polyak. 250 years later, we’re telling the story of its history in England, through the makers and players who proved a violinist was more than just a fiddler. We’ll explore how a lowly pub instrument came to be revered by the time of Richard Duke, from Whitehall Palace to Hanover Square. From Nicola Matteis’ stunning performances at the Oxford Academies, to Haydn’s Scottish tunes, join us as we celebrate the legacy of the violin in England.
Concert location: Hessler Music Barn, 2262 E Cricket Lane, Freeland, WA
A Note from Lindsey: Hi Friends! I've been researching this program all year, and I'm very excited to be able to share it with my Whidbey Community before we perform in Seattle the next day. Come on out and celebrate my violin's birthday-- you only turn 250 once!!
